The Head of Polri's Traffic Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, stated in a press release on Wednesday that the peak of the return flow is anticipated around April 5 or 6.
"We are taking proactive and strategic steps in collaboration with all relevant agencies," he noted.
He explained that a "contraflow" system will be initially implemented on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, starting from kilometer 70 and extending to kilometer 47.
This involves temporarily using one or more lanes of the opposing direction to increase capacity. If traffic volume demands, this contraflow could be further extended to kilometer 36.
"The decision to implement the contraflow will be based on real-time traffic data and volume counts," Suryonugroho clarified.
In the event of a significant increase in vehicles starting on April 3, the first phase of a localized "one-way" system will be put in place.
This will direct all traffic in one direction from kilometer 188 of the Palimanan toll road to the Main Cikarang Toll Gate at kilometer 70 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.
"If a substantial surge of vehicles from the east towards Jakarta continues on April 4, we will implement the second phase of the one-way system, stretching from kilometer 246 to kilometer 188," he added.
Should heavy traffic persist until April 5, the localized one-way scheme will be further extended. A nationwide one-way traffic management plan will then be implemented on April 6 if necessary.
Suryonugroho also mentioned that police officers will be deployed to manage traffic on arterial roads (major non-toll roads) and at popular tourist destinations during the Eid return period.
He emphasized the readiness of Polri's Traffic Corps to facilitate a smooth return journey for travelers.
"We urge all travelers to adequately prepare for their return journey, prioritize their health, and ensure their vehicles are in good working order to ensure a safe arrival at their destinations," he advised.
