"Your tireless hard work resulted in the rescue of 8 survivors and the recovery of 172 bodies," Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement, Dr. Soe Win, said while highlighting the outcome of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team's work in Myanmar.
The USAR team comprised personnel from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.
According to a press statement received here on Monday, Soe Win, on behalf of the Myanmar authorities, highlighted the contribution of Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries that helped Myanmar during a ceremony on Sunday (April 6, 2025).
The cooperation ensured effective SAR missions after the earthquake, which killed more than 3 thousand people in Myanmar and Thailand, he said.
The minister also expressed gratitude to Indonesia's SAR team, as well as the governments and people of friendly countries, who supported Myanmar in the difficult time with assistance and humanitarian aid.
As a token of appreciation, Soe Win presented a certificate and souvenir to the INASAR team leader.
The INASAR team also earned the praise of the Myanmar Fire Services Department, the local rescue team, for helping in search and rescue operations for the quake victims.
For the humanitarian mission in Myanmar, Indonesia deployed 157 personnel from different ministries and institutions, including the Human Development and Culture Coordinating Ministry, Health Ministry, National Disaster Mitigation Agency, and National Search and Rescue Agency.
Indonesia also provided 136 tons of aid packages comprising ready-to-eat meals, medicines, health equipment, and other basic needs, such as blankets and emergency tents, which were sent in three delivery batches.
