Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Alms Agency (Baznas) has called on Indonesians to demonstrate their solidarity and concern for fellow Muslims affected by the devastating earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, 2025, by supporting and donating to recovery efforts.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar caused more than 3,300 deaths and injured over five thousand people.

The quake damaged more than 50 mosques, many of which collapsed while worshippers were performing Friday prayers.

“This is a deeply concerning disaster. Many of our fellow Muslims have lost their places of worship, even their lives. We at Baznas, on behalf of the Indonesian people, feel compelled to help them rise again,” Baznas chair Noor Achmad said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday.

He emphasized that Baznas will promptly extend help for the recovery process, particularly the rebuilding and reconstruction of damaged mosques.

He added that these efforts will be carried out by considering the post-disaster conditions as well as the security and political situation in Myanmar, which is not yet fully conducive.

“As soon as possible, we will begin rebuilding the destroyed places of worship. However, of course, we must wait for a more conducive situation so the process can proceed safely and smoothly,” he stated.

Achmad informed that as an initial step, his agency has deployed a humanitarian team consisting of the Baznas disaster response team (BTB) and medical personnel from the Baznas Health Clinic (RSB) to help accelerate the post-disaster recovery process.

Baznas has also sent 16 thousand aid packages, weighing 19.7 tons and valued at Rp2.5 billion (approximately US$150,963), for the people of Myanmar.

Alhamdulillah, the Baznas humanitarian team, part of the Indonesia Search and Rescue Team (INASAR), has arrived at the location and immediately assisting the victims,” he said.

Achmad then urged the Indonesian public to help ease the burden on their Muslim brothers and sisters in Myanmar. He said he believes that public donations and support will play a significant role in expediting the recovery process and rebuilding of damaged mosques.

“Support from the Indonesian people means a lot to our brothers and sisters who are facing this disaster. May our concern be a way for them to rise again,” he added.
