In a statement received here on Wednesday, she underscored that those measures can ensure that the national economy remains conducive, especially for investors, amid global economic uncertainties.
Responding to the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate to Rp17 thousand per US dollar, she urged the government to take measures to anticipate the impact of the weakening rupiah on people's lives.
"A conducive economic condition will provide opportunity for improving people's welfare," she said.
The House Speaker also highlighted the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG), which plunged by nine percent in early trade on Tuesday (April 8, 2025) morning, saying it cannot be overlooked.
She emphasized that economic stability is not only about stock market figures, but also concerns the certainty of the livelihoods of millions of people.
"Every policy taken by the government in responding to this situation must place people's welfare as the main priority," she said.
Maharani affirmed that the DPR, through its Constitutional function, will continue to work with the government to maintain national economic stability and improve the purchasing power of the community amid global volatilities.
However, she said, the most important thing is ensuring that the underprivileged do not become victims of such uncertainties.
Currently, one of Indonesia's economic challenges is the 32-percent reciprocal import tariff announced by US President Donald Trump last week, which may significantly affect Indonesian industries.
Other Southeast Asian countries hit by the tariff include ASEAN members such as the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia, which have received 17 percent, 10 percent, 49 percent, 46 percent, 36 percent, and 24 percent tariffs, respectively.
