Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment called on all industrial park managers to establish Air Quality Monitoring Stations (SPKU) to address potential air pollution ahead of the dry season.

"Since there is no ministerial regulation yet, we will mandate it through a ministerial decree until the ministerial regulation is created. Hence, it is semi-mandatory," Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq told the press after a meeting with businesses operating in industrial parks here on Thursday.

He explained that the installation of SPKU aims to identify pollution sources and determine further steps.

Nurofiq stated that several industrial parks have already installed or are planning to set up a station for automatic and continuous air quality monitoring, which will provide factual or real-time data.

He affirmed that the ministerial decree regarding the SPKU would be issued in the near future.

Thursday's meeting sought to foster collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and businesses, especially those operating in industrial parks.

The minister reminded industrial park managers and regional governments of their shared responsibility to control air pollution, along with other forms of pollution in their respective regions.

Nurofiq stressed that his ministry could take legal action in the event of failure to carry out good management and non-compliance with the existing rules.
