"Realizing the historical relationship that has bound us for decades, the two leaders agreed to escalate their relationship to a strategic partnership level based on the values of justice, mutual respect, and mutual trust"Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi have agreed to upgrade bilateral relations between the two countries to a strategic partnership.
The agreement was stated in a joint statement by President Prabowo and President El Sisi, announced after the two met at the Egyptian Presidential Palace Al Ittihadiya, Cairo, on Saturday local time.
The Indonesian Presidential Secretariat in its official broadcast on Saturday (April 12), explained the strategic partnership is the basis for the two countries to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including politics, economy, defense, culture, and education, as well as inter-community relations.
"Realizing the historical relationship that has bound us for decades, the two leaders agreed to escalate their relationship to a strategic partnership level based on the values of justice, mutual respect, and mutual trust," as written in the joint statement.
Prabowo met with El Sisi to discuss the geopolitical situation and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, then consulted on Indonesia's readiness to help the Palestinian people in Gaza.
The joint statement document of the two Presidents said that the meeting between Prabowo and El Sisi was productive.
"The two Presidents held productive discussions to strengthen the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries," the statement said.
On a separate occasion, Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed el Shennawy, as quoted from the Egyptian News Agency MENA, informed that the two presidents discussed steps to improve bilateral relations between the two countries, the latest developments in the region, and steps to restore stability in the Middle East.
At the Al Ittihadiya Palace, Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Egypt is the third destination of Prabowo's foreign visits to five countries in the Middle East since April 9. He had previously visited the United Arab Emirates and Turkey.
After Egypt, he is scheduled to visit Doha, Qatar, and end his series of state visit in Amman, Jordan.
