"Indonesia will always be part of implementing that commitment (of reducing emissions), but with great caution," he stated at the opening of the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition 2025 in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Lahadalia stated that the commitment is emphasized in President Prabowo Subianto’s vision regarding energy sovereignty through exploring and intensifying new and renewable energy sources.
According to the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution, Indonesia aims to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 31.89 percent unilaterally and 43.20 percent through international cooperation by 2030.
Addressing French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone, who attended the summit, Lahadalia assured Indonesia’s eagerness to implement energy transition projects to reduce emissions.
"In fact, my suggestion is, Sir, please ask the initiating countries of the Paris Agreement as to what extent their commitment is? (It is) because Indonesia has been very consistent in implementing it," he stated.

Lahadalia's statement followed the US President Donald Trump’s decision to quit the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit the increase in global average temperatures to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, with an aspiration for closer to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Last week, Trump signed an executive order promoting the coal industry in the US by “directing relevant agencies to identify coal resources in Federal lands, lift barriers to coal mining, and prioritize coal leasing on those lands.”
Believing that coal is essential to the US' national and economic security, Trump stated that coal will be critical to meeting the rise in electricity demand due to a resurgence of domestic manufacturing and the construction of AI data processing centers.
