Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Anindya Bakrie stated that the downstreaming policy for natural resources promoted under President Prabowo Subianto's government can strengthen trade with China.

"We have (a trade) surplus of US$2 billion with China due to successful downstream investments between the two countries," Bakrie stated after attending an event marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China here on Thursday evening (April 17).

He noted that Chinese investment in Indonesia's stainless steel production will pave the way for potential new capital in other sectors.

"We can see that (the cooperation) can extend to battery materials, alumina, aluminum, and so on," he remarked.

Bakrie also revealed that his side plans to organize a business trip to major Chinese cities beyond Beijing and Shanghai to study business developments and explore potential cooperation in those regions.

"In this visit, we will learn about industrialization, as well as (developments) in the health, education, and technology sectors, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI)," he stated.

The Kadin chairman also spoke of having communicated the planned visit to the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Wang Lutong.

Bakrie views Indonesia's position as an ideal non-aligned country for seeking new economic opportunities amid trade tensions between the United States and China.

"Both countries are very important for us, and we always say that we want more balanced trade, and we understand the demands from each country," he stated.

According to the China Belt and Road (BRI) Investment Report 2024, Indonesia was again the single largest recipient, with about US$9.3 billion in investments.
