At the Presidential Palace here on Monday, he informed that the government's team, led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, is carrying out regular coordination to anticipate and update the results of its negotiations.
He added that the US tariff policy has prompted the government to make improvements, both in terms of regulations and strengthening the domestic industry.
In addition, the government is actively seeking alternative markets outside the US to reduce dependence on exports.
"There are things that we need to fix in terms of regulation, then from our industries, including looking for new markets, not just the US," he said.
The Indonesian delegation, led by Hartarto, met with the United States Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, on Sunday to submit a tariff negotiation proposal.
To balance the US trade deficit, Indonesia has made a concrete offer to increase its purchases and imports from the US, including the purchase of energy products, crude oil, LPG, and gasoline.
The country is also seeking to increase imports of agricultural products, such as soybeans and wheat, from the US.
Lutnick expressed appreciation for the commitment and the proposal, adding that Indonesia's offers and requests are concrete and would mutually benefit the two countries.
On April 2, 2025, US President Donald Trump announced "reciprocal" tariffs on several countries, with Indonesia slapped with a 32-percent tariff. The Trump administration also imposed a 10-percent baseline tariff on imports from all countries.
However, a week later, he announced a postponement for most countries, including Indonesia, opening room for negotiations.
