Majalengka, West Java (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Population and Family Development has earned a record from the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) for reaching 2,000 male acceptors of contraceptive services (KB) through the male surgery method (MOP), commonly known as vasectomy.

"Today, we broke the MURI record for the highest number of vasectomy contraceptive services provided," said Wihaji, the Minister of Population and Family Development, on Tuesday.

He stated that the vasectomy initiative aims to help control Indonesia's total fertility rate (TFR), currently recorded at 2.18, and serves as a demonstration of gender equality—highlighting that men, too, are responsible for participating in contraception.

"This is not just about breaking a record," he continued, "but about providing the best service for the Indonesian people, commemorating Kartini Day, and encouraging greater involvement and responsibility from husbands in family planning."

Wihaji outlined three eligibility criteria for a vasectomy: being at least 35 years old, having two or more children, and being declared healthy through a medical screening, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks.

"For women, we offer contraceptive methods such as implants, injections, and pills. For men, we offer vasectomy, which has a success rate of 99 percent within this program," he noted.

As of 08:00 local time, according to the 2025 vasectomy service dashboard—used to record and report simultaneous services—1,431 men had undergone the procedure, marking a national achievement rate of 71.55 percent.

Banten recorded the highest success rate at 195 percent, with 39 procedures completed against a target of 20. South Sumatra followed with 141.67 percent (34 out of a 24-person target), and East Kalimantan achieved 138.89 percent (25 out of 18).

The numbers continue to rise each hour, with 1,800 registrants recorded as of 08:00. All participants are currently being served by trained doctors and healthcare professionals in each respective region.
