Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development Ratu Isyana Bagoes Oka showcased the country's achievements and programs in health and human development at the 58th Session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD).
Speaking at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Monday, she noted a decline in maternal and infant mortality rates in Indonesia, signaling a positive trend in national life expectancy.
On equitable access to healthcare, she stated that the National Health Insurance (JKN) program has continued to expand, with around 96 percent of Indonesian citizens now enrolled.
She added that the Indonesian government has prioritized several key areas, including universal healthcare, improved education quality, social protection, poverty reduction, and lowering malnutrition rates.
To support these goals, she highlighted initiatives such as the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and the Free Health Checks (PKG) program.
Meanwhile, Budi Setiyono, Secretary of the Ministry of Population and Family Development, emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to human development, one that considers all stages of the human life cycle.
In this context, he explained, the MBG and PKG programs are key government interventions to prevent malnutrition and disease, with the broader aim of fostering a healthy, high-quality population.
He added that the government is working to enhance family planning, improve maternal healthcare, and raise the legal age of marriage as part of these efforts.
During the session, the Indonesian delegation also underscored the inclusivity and sustainability of these initiatives, noting that they are supported by funding from both domestic and international partners.
The CPD, established by the UN Economic and Social Council in 1994, includes representatives from 47 member states, including Indonesia.
