Head of the Jakarta Cathedral, Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo, on Tuesday informed that the Requiem Mass will be led by the Vatican's Ambassador to Indonesia, who is a direct representative of the Holy See.
It will be attended by chairperson of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI) and several bishops, he added.
"I will also participate in the mass. Father Secretary has sent a letter to all parishes in the Jakarta Archdiocese to celebrate the Eucharist for the soul of Pope Francis," he continued.
According to Hardjoatmodjo, all 69 parishes in the Jakarta Archdiocese have been encouraged to hold a Requiem Mass on Thursday afternoon. If that is not feasible, they can choose another day for the mass.
Regarding activities at the national level, Cardinal Hardjoatmodjo said that each diocese in Indonesia has been given the flexibility to arrange prayers and mass agendas depending on the situation in their respective regions.
"The most important thing is the people are invited to pray for the Holy Father," he added.
Following a meeting of the College of Cardinals at the Vatican on Tuesday, the Cardinal informed that the body of Pope Francis will be carried in a long procession from Casa Santa Marta, his residence, to St. Peter's Basilica on Wednesday.
The procession will be led by head of the Papal Household.
Pope Francis died at the age of 88 at his residence at 7:35 a.m. Vatican time on Easter Monday.
His funeral is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. Vatican time on April 26, 2025. It will be led by the Dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re. It will be followed by a several-day mourning period.
