"Universities are the place for developing quality human resources, centers for scientific development, and have a role in the sustainability and progress of the nation," Fauzan said during a meeting with leaders of public and private universities in West Nusa Tenggara Province recently.
He emphasized that higher education institutions have a strategic role in accelerating development in the regions.
"(Regional development) can be achieved if campuses work together with local governments and other stakeholders as part of the development ecosystem," he added.
Speaking of the implementation of the Tri Darma, or the three principles of higher education, especially in the research sector, Fauzan said that while many research products are substantial, they are often not utilized in a practical manner.
Society needs the touch of technology and science to improve its quality of life, he observed.
For this reason, the government is promoting the "Impactful Campus Program," which is seen as a solution to enhance the living standards of communities in various fields, he informed.
He also noted that some campuses in Indonesia have collaborated effectively with both the government and the business and industry sectors to address various issues in society related to agriculture, renewable energy, unemployment, and poverty, among others.
"Campuses must be able to serve as a driving force in addressing the nation's problems in a measurable way," Deputy Minister Fauzan said.
