According to a press release received from the ministry here on Thursday, she informed that 99 percent of students at the Lombok Tourism Polytechnic, West Nusa Tenggara, have expressed the desire to work abroad.
She made the statement during a discussion with Deputy Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, Christina Aryani, at the tourism polytechnic.
Puspa said that considering the huge opportunities to work overseas in the tourism sector, it is important to prepare for them, for instance, by gaining foreign language skills, obtaining permits, and securing labor protection.
"It was mentioned that 99 percent of the students here aspire to build their careers abroad; this is a great opportunity. Once they feel they have enough experience, they should return to the homeland to create new job opportunities, which is what I hope for," she added.
She also pointed out that working overseas comes with certain challenges, such as financial constraints in managing the necessary documents, the need to improve foreign language skills, and personal issues like obtaining permission from family.
Therefore, she said she expected that the discussion event, which included sharing sessions, would help enlighten students about how to work abroad safely and get optimal protection from the government.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Aryani revealed that based on data from the ministry, the number of Indonesian migrant workers in the hospitality sector has reached 23,152. They accounted for 4.02 percent of the total target placement of 297,434, she added.
"In the future, job opportunities abroad in the hospitality sector will continue to open up and develop, making it essential to enhance the value and competitiveness of Indonesian migrant workers," she said.
