Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia would strengthen cooperation in the digital sector with Estonia by leveraging its digital potential.

"We know that Estonia is a country whose digitalization level is very high, and I believe that we can benefit from the sophistication of the digital sector that Estonia has," he stated.

The minister made the statement in a press conference after a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He affirmed that Indonesia and Estonia would explore collaboration with Estonian digital talents to advance national education and implement e-governance to realize more effective governmental processes and bureaucracy in Indonesia.

He also expressed optimism about various opportunities for Estonia to contribute to Indonesia's development across multiple sectors.

Sugiono further highlighted the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, evidenced by increased official exchanges between both nations.

The minister also welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Indonesia-Estonia CEO Business Forum in Jakarta recently.

He expressed belief that bilateral trade cooperation, which has recorded positive performance over the past five years, will improve in the future.

Earlier, Minister Tsahkna confirmed on Tuesday that Indonesia and Estonia are discussing ways to intensify cooperation in cybersecurity and digitalization in the government sector.

He noted that cybersecurity is currently an urgent issue that must addressed, adding that Estonia has been developing its digital infrastructure with the private sector for over two decades.
