Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria stated that the government is referencing some European Union (EU) regulations to shape Indonesia's digital governance framework.

As quoted in the ministry's press release on Monday, Patria highlighted that several countries have adopted EU regulations regarding digital services and markets, including those concerning artificial intelligence (AI).

"We think the Digital Services Act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA) are among the best frameworks. Of course, we need to adjust them in some parts," he noted while referring to the two regulations.

"One of the most important aspects when we talk about digital transformation for this country, besides AI, is how to manage platforms. Cybersecurity is also something we need to learn about in regulating platforms," he explained.

Meanwhile, EU Ambassador to Indonesia Denis Chaibi emphasized the importance of regulations concerning the development and use of technology, including AI.

Hence, he encouraged the Indonesian government to send a delegation to EU events that will discuss digital governance. The events will be held in Brussels, Belgium, and Stockholm, Sweden.

"This will allow for interaction among officials who are part of the regulation preparation. There will be a cybersecurity dialogue in Stockholm, and we think the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs may be interested," he stated.

He also affirmed that Indonesia and the EU could gain myriad benefits by establishing cooperation in digital affairs.

Earlier, Deputy Minister Patria said his side has invited stakeholders, ranging from industry players to several organizations, to discuss the formulation of an AI regulation.

"We are still at the stage of discussions with stakeholders. There will be six series of discussions with the stakeholders," he remarked last February.
