Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has called for the transformation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank to maintain global stability and sustainable development.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati made the call during a meeting with fellow external advisors of the Bretton Woods Institutions, Patrick Achi and Mark Malloch-Brown, on the last day of the 2025 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF in Washington, D.C.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Indrawati highlighted that fragmented global conditions not only pose a challenge for countries, but also international organizations, such as the Bretton Woods Institutions, including the IMF and the World Bank.

She also emphasized the strategic role of the two international institutions in preserving global stability amid economic uncertainty.

"The IMF and the World Bank play an important role in creating stability amidst a global economic situation which is full of uncertainty and imbalance," she said.

Against the backdrop of global challenges, the discussion focused on institutional transformation efforts so that the IMF and the World Bank can be more responsive to global developments.

Indrawati also emphasized the importance of considering the steps to be taken so that the two institutions are more agile and adaptive in facing the challenges of the times.

She said the results of the discussion can hopefully contribute to the transformation of the IMF and the World Bank so that their roles remain relevant in responding to future challenges.

"We certainly hope that our thoughts can contribute positively to achieving the goals of the establishment of the IMF and the World Bank; to encourage the creation of stability and sustainable development for the world," she added.
