Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that religious diversity is a blessing and a source of strength for the Indonesian nation during the Vesak Day celebration, which is observed by Indonesian Buddhists.
"Our differences are a 'painting' of Almighty.God. Do not damage it. Our differences are a blessing. Let us maintain them. Our differences are Indonesia's power; let us preserve them," Umar stated after attending the Vesak Day commemoration at the Indonesia Buddhist Centre here on Monday.
The minister expressed happiness that Indonesians remain united in their diversity, a characteristic that defines humanity. "The difference is our character as humans," he added.
Addressing Indonesian Buddhists celebrating Vesak Day, Minister Umar encouraged them to emanate positive energy to all living beings, in line with Buddha's teachings.
"Not only for the humans but also the trees, stones, waters, skies, and all," he stated, adding that this aligns with the Muslim spirit of "Rahmatan lilalamin" (blessing to all), which is embraced by the nation's largest religious group.
