Dressed in a light brown safari outfit and a black peci, President Prabowo arrived at the venue aboard a Maung Garuda RI-1 vehicle at around 3:45 p.m. local time.
Upon his arrival, the president was welcomed by the late figure’s family members and several Red and White Cabinet officials, including Foreign Minister Sugiono and Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo, at the steps leading from the parking area to the funeral hall.
Retired Major General Eddie Marzuki Nalapraya, who once served as deputy governor of Jakarta (1982–1987) and was a prominent figure in traditional Indonesian martial arts Pencak Silat, passed away on Tuesday in Jakarta at the age of 93.
His funeral was held at the Pencak Silat Training Center in TMII before his body was taken to the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery for burial.
Known as the “Father of Pencak Silat,” Nalapraya played a key role in promoting the Indonesian traditional martial art on the global stage, notably through the 1st International Invitation of Pencak Silat, which later evolved into the Pencak Silat World Championship in 1987.
He also earlier served as Chairperson of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (IPSI), a position later held by Prabowo Subianto.
Nalapraya was born in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, on June 6, 1931. He participated in defending Indonesia’s independence during the Dutch Military Aggression in 1947.
From that experience, his passion for Pencak Silat grew after witnessing the fighters' martial arts skills.
