A key topic discussed at the forum was the role of AI in expanding access to education and creating broader learning opportunities for communities.
During his presentation, Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, stressed the importance of ethical considerations in the development and use of AI in education.
“Understanding the ethical aspects of AI development is also part of Indonesia’s policy,” he said after the meeting.
Mu’ti acknowledged that while AI’s presence is significant and should be embraced by the education sector, it must be adopted with caution.
He emphasized the need for proper regulation to ensure that AI supports educational advancement, calling for a thoughtful approach to integrating digital technologies into the classroom.
“We should not only focus on digital advancements but also emphasize digital ethics,” Mu’ti remarked.
During the event, Mu’ti also held discussions with the South Korean government to explore opportunities for educational cooperation.
He noted that South Korea had expressed strong interest in partnering with Indonesia on digital learning initiatives.
“South Korea is committed to supporting the vision of quality education for all, especially in underdeveloped regions,” he added.
This year, South Korea hosted the 7th APEC Education Ministers’ Meeting, which brought together education ministers from 21 APEC member economies.
The forum gathered around 400 participants, including ministers, academics, and media representatives, to discuss educational inequality and the role of technology in promoting sustainable progress in the education sector.
