Central Lombok, NTB (ANTARA) - The Mandalika Seedling Nursery in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province has been designated as a hub to help local residents improve their livelihoods while contributing to environmental preservation, Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni stated.

“This nursery is expected to provide the public with productive plant seedlings to help unlock the full potential of forest areas,” he stated after participating in a tree-planting activity at the nursery in Central Lombok on Friday.

Antoni explained that the facility has been tasked with distributing free seedlings of various plants under the People's Garden of Seedlings (KBR) program, which aims to encourage community participation in sustainable forest management.

“It is crucial that we consistently carry out the KBR program to ensure the sustainability of our forests,” he emphasized.

Antoni then alluded to public awareness, urging more people to contribute to forest preservation efforts through seedling cultivation and tree-planting initiatives.

In this regard, the minister expressed hope that the KBR program would be instrumental in leading more residents to fully capitalize on forest areas without neglecting the significance of their sustainability.

“We should harness the potential of forests while ensuring their sustainability,” he remarked while drawing attention to the importance of cultivating plants that are both productive and economically beneficial.

To support these efforts, he noted that the Ministry of Forestry had established two additional seedling facilities in NTB Province: East Lombok District on Lombok Island and Dompu District on Sumbawa Island.

"Our planting program is intended not only to level up people's welfare but also to preserve forests," he concluded.
