Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has picked Cooperatives Minister Budi Arie Setiadi to represent Indonesia at the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Sunday (May 18, 2025).

"Yes. I have been notified by the Presidential Secretariat to depart for the Vatican tonight," Setiadi told ANTARA here on Friday.

The minister said his flight is expected to land in Rome at 7 a.m. local time on Saturday (May 17) morning.

Pope Leo XIV's inauguration mass, which will take place at St. Peter's Square on Sunday, will mark the official commencement of his papacy.

The mass will be attended by global leaders, royal families, and devout Catholics from several countries.

Leaders who have confirmed their attendance at the mass include Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who will leave for the Vatican after wrapping up his state visit in Indonesia, and United States Vice President JD Vance.

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as the 267th Pope by the College of Cardinals on the second day of the papal conclave on May 8. He succeeded Pope Francis, who died on April 21.

Pope Leo XIV, 69, lived and worked for many years in Peru. Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and French, he was recognized for his commitment to marginalized groups and migrants, receiving high praise from the late Pope Francis, who made him a cardinal in 2023.

In addition to being the first Pope from the United States, he is also the first member of the Order of Saint Augustine to lead the Catholic Church.
