Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto highlighted Indonesia's commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Thailand through the first Joint Trade Commission meeting in 2025.

"We are committed to holding the first Joint Trade Commission in the near future," he said during a press conference with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, at the Government House, Bangkok, on Monday, which was broadcast by the Royal Thai government.

According to Prabowo, the value of the trade and investment between the two countries has reached U$18 billion, and Indonesia is seeking to continue to increase it through the development and standardization of the halal industry and digital economy.

The Joint Trade Commission meeting is also expected to be a strategic forum to encourage an increase in trade value, overcome tariff and non-tariff barriers, and open up new collaboration opportunities in the industrial and digital trade sectors.

President Prabowo also emphasized the importance of cooperation between investment institutions, especially between Thai institutions and Indonesia's Investment Management Agency, Danantara.

On that occasion, Prime Minister Shinawatra highlighted Thailand's readiness to host the first Joint Trade Commission meeting this year.

She also expressed her commitment to increasing the two countries' investments as part of efforts to strengthen the bilateral economic ties between Thailand and Indonesia by enhancing their investment cooperation potential to a higher level.

She further emphasized the importance of the private sector's role in strengthening the economic foundations of both countries. Therefore, Thailand and Indonesia are encouraging active participation from business players in exploring potential cooperation in strategic sectors.

President Prabowo left Jakarta on Saturday (May 17, 2025) for Bangkok, Thailand, for an official visit to meet with King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Prime Minister Shinawatra. He is set to return to Indonesia on Monday.
