MSMEs, which currently absorb up to 97 percent of the national workforce, are increasingly being integrated into the MBG program. Those MSMEs are part of the supply chain or nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPG) for MBG meal provision.
“Labor protection through social security programs for workers in the MBG ecosystem is important. We never know what risks might arise, so we must ensure that workers are at least covered by adequate social protection,” Abdurrahman said here on Monday.
To support MSME-friendly SPPGs, the Ministry of MSMEs, in collaboration with the Social Security Agency for Workers (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), has registered workers of the Al-Kasyaf SPPG unit in the national social security program.
At the same location, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s deputy for special program participation, Ady Hendrata, welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of expanding social security participation among informal sector workers and MSMEs.
He noted that of the 64.2 million MSME actors in Indonesia, only 15.6 percent, or around 10 million, are currently covered by workers’ social security.
He added that integrating MSMEs into the MBG program would not only improve the nutritional status of young generations but also open up opportunities for inclusive economic growth.
“This is about developing from the food crop fields, the kitchens, the markets, and the hands of small workers who rely on their daily labor. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is here as a tangible commitment from the state to protect those workers from various social risks,” he said.
