Kabupaten Tangerang (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Trade Ministry has confiscated over 1.68 million illegally imported products from China, valued at Rp18.8 billion (USD1 = around Rp16,321), during a raid on a company warehouse here.

"Those products were imported from China by PT Asiaalum Trading Indonesia, which is suspected of violating import regulations," Trade Minister Budi Santoso remarked during the press conference after shutting down the violating company on Thursday.

The minister disclosed that the confiscated products included 997,296 bolts and nuts in various sizes, 600 thousand pieces of gloves, 68,265 miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), and 9,763 electric grinders, saws, and planer machines.

Import violations perpetrated by the company included failing to comply with Indonesia's national product standard (SNI) and lacking product registration number, manual, guarantee cards, and Indonesian language labels on the packaging as required by law, according to Santoso.

He affirmed that the company also failed to produce valid import documents when requested by the authority, which had been monitoring the company's trade activities through social media, particularly TikTok.

As the company was instructed to cease operations, the ministry will conduct a thorough probe into its activities. Santoso emphasized that the action against the importing company aims to protect domestic industries and consumers.

The minister noted that the ban could be temporary, and the company might be allowed to resume its activities once it fulfills all legal requirements, including obtaining import permits and relevant documents.

However, if the company fails to meet these requirements, its permit may be revoked, and its circulating products must be withdrawn from the market.
