According to a statement cited in Jakarta, the president was welcomed by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim upon his arrival at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre at 8:35 a.m. local time.
The two leaders marked their reunion by taking some pictures with Malaysia's iconic Petronas Twin Towers as the backdrop.
Prabowo was then escorted to a waiting room where he joined fellow leaders from ASEAN member states. They thereafter proceeded to a conference room.
On his way there, the Indonesian president was seen engaging in cordial conversations with Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister of Thailand Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
Before the plenary session, the ASEAN leaders posed for a group photo, with Prabowo standing between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão.
President Prabowo is expected to discuss ASEAN’s future direction at the high-level event themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”
Furthermore, he will deliver a speech during a retreat session, touching upon regional and international issues.
Additionally, the Indonesian president intends to leverage his visit to Malaysia to hold bilateral meetings with several nations.
His participation in the 46th ASEAN Summit reflects Indonesia's steadfast commitment to enhancing solidarity among Southeast Asian nations and reaffirming its leadership in the region amid ever-evolving global dynamics.
Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Trade Minister Budi Santoso, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan P. Roeslani, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya accompanied President Prabowo during the agenda.
