Jakarta (ANTARA) - The provincial governments of Jakarta and Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea, are hoping to build cooperation to advance economic growth, sustainable development, and cultural exchange.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo and Chungcheongnam-do Governor Kim Tae-heum signed a letter of intent (LoI) regarding the cooperation in Jakarta on Tuesday.

"Let us strengthen ties in the fields of trade, economy, culture, friendship, sports, and student exchanges," Wibowo said at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.

Most importantly, he added, the cooperation must bring progress and prosperity to both parties.

He noted that Chungcheongnam-do is known as one of the provinces with the fastest economic growth in South Korea and is a center of investment for global companies.

According to Wibowo, the province can be an inspiring example for Jakarta in accelerating inclusive and innovative development.

"I invited Governor Kim Tae-heum to advance our respective provinces through mutually beneficial cooperation," he said.

The governor expressed optimism that the collaboration will generate positive impacts for both provinces.

Meanwhile, Governor Kim described Jakarta's policy requiring civil servants to use public transportation every Wednesday as an innovation in governance.

Taking note of his shared vision with Wibowo, Kim said he is optimistic that the cooperation between Chungcheongnam-do and Jakarta would run well.

The relationship between Jakarta and Chungcheongnam-do dates back to the opening of the Chungcheongnam-do Economic Promotion Office (CEPA) in Jakarta in 2021.

The provincial government of Jakarta is committed to strengthening the cooperation, especially in the fields of trade, investment, innovation, and cultural and educational exchanges.

It is hoped that people from both provinces will feel the direct benefits of this cooperation through the exchange of students and teaching staff, knowledge transfer, and cultural activities that bolster social and cultural relations.
