During the meeting held at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo on Wednesday, she emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between both nations, especially as both face challenges from increasing global geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty.
“Both countries are key pillars for creating peace, security, and prosperity in Asia,” she said, as quoted from a written statement.
She described her meeting with Fukushiro as a significant moment in Indonesia–Japan friendship, which this year marks its 67th anniversary since diplomatic relations were established in 1958.

Maharani explained that the foundation for bilateral relations was laid during President Soekarno’s era and that the Indonesian government continues to work towards deepening cooperation with Japan.
She also emphasized the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary collaboration to complement the close ties already established at the government level.
“On this occasion, I would like to extend an invitation to the Japanese House Speaker to visit Indonesia,” she remarked.
Maharani noted that Japan remains one of Indonesia’s top trading partners and a leading foreign investor.
Hence, she deemed it essential to boost trade and investment flows between the two countries, especially amid the current uncertain global economic conditions.

She also expressed hope that Japan would continue to support Indonesia in infrastructure development, downstreaming, and the green energy transition.
In addition, she stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties as a foundation for long-term bilateral relations.
The people-to-people ties can be fostered through tourism, cultural exchanges, and the promotion of arts, cuisine, and film, which will help attract more Japanese tourists to Indonesia.
