The ministry's Director General of Teachers, Educational Staff, and Teachers' Education (Dirjen GTKPG), Nunuk Suryani, stated that she would provide three times the estimated number of teachers required for 100 Sekolah Rakyat, which is 1,514 people.
"The need for teachers at 100 Sekolah Rakyat locations was estimated to reach 1,514 people, and we will prepare candidates who already have teacher certificates. We will prepare three times the number to be selected by the minister of social affairs," she stated at the Dialogue of the Leadership of the Directorate General of GTKPG with Fortadik at the ministry in Jakarta, Wednesday.
She further explained that the four thousand prospective teachers for Sekolah Rakyat are recent graduates who already possess Teacher Professional Education (PPG) certification but have not yet been placed in a teaching institution.
Hence, he emphasized that fulfilling the teacher requirement for Sekolah Rakyat would not involve a redistribution scheme or include teachers who already have placements.
This approach aims to avoid disrupting teaching and learning activities during the current academic year, considering that Sekolah Rakyat teachers will later be required to reside in dormitories.
"Later, these teachers will have to live in dormitories to accompany children under a new paradigm," he said.
Sekolah Rakyat is scheduled to begin operations in July 2025. The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) is targeting the gradual establishment of 100 Sekolah Rakyat across Indonesia this year.
Students at Sekolah Rakyat are those coming from poor and extremely poor families, who are included in the decile 1 category of the National Socioeconomic Single Data (DTSEN).
