Banyumas, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Alms Agency (Baznas) is targeting to slaughter seven thousand Qurbani, or sacrificial animals—comprising cattle and goats—across various locations in 10 provinces for the Eid al-Adha celebrations.

Baznas' Deputy II for Distribution and Empowerment, M. Imdadun Rahmat, stated that the program would run until June 9, marking the conclusion of the tasyrik days, noting that the meat would be distributed to both donors and people in need.

"In Banyumas District alone, we are sacrificing 150 goats," he remarked during a slaughter event organized by Baznas in Banyumas, Central Java, on Friday.

Rahmat revealed that the sacrificial animals Baznas is slaughtering were sourced from its livestock centers scattered across 34 locations, as well as from private vendors.

Highlighting private sector involvement, he emphasized that Baznas' Qurbani program also aims to demonstrate the viability and appeal of livestock farming, especially during Eid al-Adha.

"It should be noted that animal sacrifices can provide a source of increased income for farmers, considering that Baznas alone requires around 15 thousand Qurbani animals each Eid al-Adha," he remarked.

Discussing Baznas' livestock centers, Rahmat said the agency began operating them three years ago, with activities ramping up over the past two years.

In addition to distributing raw meat, he remarked that the centers also produce canned meat products for social welfare programs, including those focused on addressing chronic childhood malnutrition, or stunting.

"Since these products have a longer shelf life, we can send them to remote areas, especially those affected by stunting. In other words, we contribute to national nutrition initiatives," he explained.

Rahmat also noted that the livestock centers produce goat milk alongside meat products.

"Hopefully, these centers will lead to the development of supporting business units, helping establish a solid livestock business ecosystem," he concluded.
