According to a press release from KBRI Bandar Seri Begawan received in Jakarta on Saturday, the decision was made after the crescent moon was sighted at four locations and subsequently approved by the Chief Justice of Sharia and the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Brunei Darussalam.
“This kind of difference is common in Islamic tradition because there are various methods for determining the start of the Hijri month, which depends on ‘rukyah’ and ‘hisab,’” Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Achmad Ubaedillah stated.

After performing the Eid al-Adha prayer, a sermon was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Muhamad Abduh, an Indonesian lecturer at the University Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
Abduh conveyed an important message from Prophet Muhammad's sermon at Arafah during the Hajj Wada’, which encouraged all Muslims to be devout, fair, and caring, as well as to avoid oppressive systems and build loving and understanding families.
“As Muslims, we must know all of the Prophet’s teachings, not only to remember history but to bring the Prophet’s teachings to life as a compass for life in modern times,” Abduh affirmed.
After performing prayers and listening to sermons, the activity continued with halal bihalal, friendly gatherings, and communal meals.
The Eid al-Adha celebration at KBRI Bandar Seri Begawan provided a space for friendship and togetherness among Indonesian citizens in Brunei Darussalam, as well as a cure for homesickness.
