Depok, West Java (ANTARA) - University of Indonesia (UI) Rector Professor Heri Hermansyah emphasized the need to strengthen collaboration among varsities in BRICS countries to enhance their educational competitiveness globally.

"Cooperation and collaboration in various aspects, especially within the Three Pillars of Higher Education, must be expanded and strengthened to ensure they will benefit beyond the BRICS+ countries," Professor Hermansyah stated, referring to Indonesia's higher education pillars of education, research, and community service.

According to a university statement issued on Monday, the rector presented his views on university collaboration during his presentation at the recent BRICS+ Universities Rectors' Forum held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 5-7, 2025.

In his presentation, the UI rector highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation through a double-degree education scheme, joint research, and match-funding initiatives.

He also stressed the roles of university-level exchanges involving students, lecturers, and university staff, fellowship programs, and scholarships for foreign students.

Meanwhile, the UI rector attributed his participation at the rectors' forum in Rio de Janeiro to the earlier visits of Alexey Vazhov, Vice-Rector for International Relations of the Lomonosov Moscow State University (LMSU), on March 5, 2025, and Brazilian Ambassador to Indonesia George Monteiro Prata.

"The University of Indonesia is committed to opening and expanding collaboration with universities at the Asian or global levels," he stated.

The professor expressed hope that collaboration among BRICS+ universities would bolster higher education performance amid global economic, political, and strategic dynamics.

On the same occasion, Hermansyah also invited around 150 rectors of BRICS+ universities to participate in UI's Green Metric program to help monitor sustainability impacts at their respective universities.
