Depok, W Java (ANTARA) - The Faculty of Nursing of the University of Indonesia (FIK UI) is expected to become a leader in digital technology-based nursing services and strengthen comprehensive care in the country, a Cabinet member has said.

Therefore, the Health Ministry will fully support efforts to increase the capacity of nurses for the digital transformation of the healthcare system, Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono said.

“The world of nursing continues to evolve as science and technology keep advancing,” he was quoted as saying in a press statement released in Depok city, West Java, on Friday.

As frontliners in healthcare, nurses play a strategic role in pushing for useful and patient-oriented innovation, Harbuwono said.

According to the UI’s deputy rector for research and innovation, Prof. Hamdi Muluk, the university management is providing students from the Faculty of Nursing with space to showcase their innovations.

The works of innovation produced by the students reflect their support for a digital transformation in nursing practices, he said, adding they also show that innovations are not restricted to laboratories.

The spirit of collaboration and courage to enable the world of nursing to address present and future challenges has also encouraged the students to produce much-needed innovations, Muluk observed.

Dean of FIK UI, Prof. Tutik Sri Hariyati, highlighted the importance of innovation in nursing, saying that her faculty is committed to making it a part of the academic culture.

The synergy of nursing sciences and technology can offer solutions to Indonesia’s healthcare system and lead to the country’s advancement in the global digital healthcare ecosystem, she said.

Nurses today not only need to have clinical skills but also the capability to adapt to and apply technology in their daily work, Hariyati added.

The FIK UI was established in 1995. It evolved out of a nursing sciences study program launched under the UI’s Faculty of Medicine in 1985.

The faculty’s official website states that FIK UI is the first and best nursing faculty in Indonesia and is currently a center for nursing education.
