The plan to build the Indonesian Village is well-founded, so the government can consider putting it on the strategic project list of sovereign wealth fund management agency Danantara, he said here on Friday.
He suggested that Danantara develop an investment scheme for the project by involving the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), state-owned enterprises, private partners, and the global sharia financial industry.
“Building the Indonesian Village in Saudi Arabia is a concrete action for fulfilling the needs of our Hajj and Umrah pilgrims,” Auly, who represents the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives, said.
In addition, it may pave the way for strategic long-term investment and also serve as a long-term solution to problems that arise frequently during the annual Hajj season, he added.
Setting up the Indonesian Village in Mecca and Medina would also shift the government’s approach toward Hajj services from a reactive to a proactive one, he said.
The plan to build the Indonesian Village was first announced by President Prabowo Subianto on April 5, 2025.
As per information on the Cabinet Secretariat’s website, Prabowo also expressed his intention to build the village during his meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to the Secretariat’s website, “the Crown Prince responded positively to the proposal and agreed to further discuss the technical details in the near future.”
