Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, has called for stronger collaboration between Indonesia and the Philippines in the era of digital transformation, particularly in digital governance and the ethical development of artificial intelligence (AI).

In a statement issued on Saturday, she emphasized that the two nations share a vision of a digital future that is safe, ethical, and centered on human dignity.

"We must welcome the advancement of artificial intelligence with a collaborative spirit to ensure responsible development through inclusive policies, ethical innovation, and in-depth research and talent exchange," Hafid said.

She made the remarks during the commemoration of the Philippines’ 147th Independence Day in Jakarta on Friday, according to the statement.

Hafid noted that Indonesia’s relationship with the Philippines is grounded not only in geographic proximity but also in a shared history of unity, cultural values, and common ideals.

"As fellow founders of ASEAN, the two countries have worked together in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity across Southeast Asia," she said.

She also cited Indonesia's support for peace in the Philippines, including its role in facilitating the Jakarta Accord in 1996, as evidence of deepening bilateral solidarity.

Hafid further reiterated Indonesia’s full support for the Philippines' upcoming ASEAN chairmanship in 2026, particularly in addressing increasingly complex global challenges.
