Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Cooperatives Budi Arie Setiadi said he wants the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) to become a pilot project for the development of the Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperative program throughout Indonesia.

"I hope Yogyakarta can become an example for other provinces," he stated at the handover of the Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperative Legal Entity Decree in Yogyakarta on Sunday.

Setiadi noted that the village cooperative program consists of three main stages. The first stage is the establishment of the legality of the cooperative, which is targeted for completion by the end of June 2025.

The second stage is the construction and operation of the cooperative, while the third stage includes monitoring, evaluation, and development of the cooperative business.

The minister lauded the DIY Provincial Government, especially the Sleman District Government, which had shown a strong commitment to supporting this program.

According to him, all villages in Sleman had established the Red and White cooperative units.

Data from the Ministry of Cooperatives revealed that as of June 15, 2025, 404 cooperatives or 92.24 percent of cooperative units in the province have obtained legal entities, and 390 cooperative units or 89.04 percent have been recorded in the online system of the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Red and White Cooperative dashboard.

This achievement is the highest of all provinces and reflects the seriousness of the Yogyakarta provincial government in realizing this strategic policy, Setiadi said.

"The village cooperative units can bring digitalization and capital access closer to village communities. They can also realize entrepreneurship at the grassroots level of rural communities," the minister noted.

Meanwhile, Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan HB X said he fully supports the Red and White village cooperative units since they are in line with the food development program (Lumbung Mataram) in Yogyakarta, to increase residents' income.

"I hope these two can establish a good cooperation," he said.

He believes the presence of the cooperative units can create certainty of professional and accountable management.

In addition, the Deputy Head of Sleman District Danang Maharsa informed that all villages in his region had held special village meetings to form the Red and White cooperative and its membership.

"The development of this cooperative includes the establishment of multifunctional service outlets such as cooperative offices, basic necessities, savings and loans, village clinics, village pharmacies, cold storage or warehousing, and village logistics adjusted to the local potential of each region," he explained.
