Minister Abdul Kadir Karding stated that the request was conveyed by Guatemalan Ambassador to Indonesia, Jacobo Cuyun Salguero, during his visit to the ministry’s office in Jakarta.
“We will first examine the placement process, training, and the overall system,” Karding said in a press statement received on Tuesday.
According to Ambassador Salguero, Guatemala has already established labor placement agreements with Canada, Spain, and Qatar.
Karding responded by expressing Indonesia’s willingness to further explore Guatemala’s request.
He explained that Indonesia has deployed migrant workers in various professions across several countries.
“We are ready to provide workers for many job positions—such as nursing, machine operation, hospitality, and more. However, all placements must meet established standards and operate within a clear system,” he added.
In his discussion with Salguero, Karding emphasized that Indonesia is reinforcing its safe and legal migration framework to protect citizens seeking employment abroad.
“We are developing a system to curb the outflow of workers through illegal channels, which often leads to violence, exploitation, and human trafficking. This is a major focus for us,” he said.
Minister Karding also described the development of an integrated vocational education program designed to equip migrant workers with technical skills, foreign language proficiency, and a strong work ethic.
He further stated that empowerment efforts would continue while the workers are abroad.
“Even overseas, they remain part of our empowerment system through the IT services we’ve developed, allowing us to continue providing protection,” he said.
