Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar emphasized the importance of strengthening diplomacy with countries where Indonesian migrant workers are placed to ensure comprehensive protection based on the law and regulation mandates.

“The ministry will continue to push and coordinate with the Ministry of Migrant Workers Protection to ensure their safety and welfare in every country,” Iskandar noted in the ministry's statement here on Monday.

The minister made these remarks while meeting Indonesian migrant workers in Singapore before attending a series of state activities with President Prabowo Subianto.

“We must prevent violence against migrant workers from recurring, as it can result in loss of life, which would harm our heroes of foreign exchange,” he emphasized.

Iskandar expressed his gratitude for the well-being of Indonesian migrant workers in Singapore, noting that they are able to work effectively and support their families back home.

He noted that placing migrant workers abroad is a form of community empowerment, creating job opportunities to improve economic conditions and help lift people out of poverty.

The minister also shared the story of Mrs. Fiah, a migrant worker from Pasuruan, East Java, who has been the breadwinner for her family by working as a domestic helper in Singapore for 12 years.

Mrs. Fiah has been working in Singapore since 2013 and has successfully provided for her three children in Indonesia despite not having support from a husband.

Iskandar greeted the Indonesian migrant workers in Singapore ahead of accompanying President Prabowo during his state visit there.

Earlier, Minister of Migrant Workers Protection Abdul Kadir Karding emphasized that protecting migrant workers requires collaboration among all parties, including ministries, government agencies, and civil society organizations.

He remarked that through collaboration, his side can seek support from partners to educate prospective migrant workers about proper and legal placement procedures.
