"This visit is not just symbolic. Rather, it is a concrete step to strengthen Indonesia's position as Russia's strategic partner in Southeast Asia," Misbakhun, who heads the House's commission overseeing finance, remarked.
Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, he explained that Prabowo's visit aims to include a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and a speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
Misbakhun noted that the head of state's visit is a strategic step, taken at the right time as Indonesia and Russia celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties this year.
"This step also reflects Indonesia's seriousness in empowering its global partnership and expanding influences of its economic diplomacy," he remarked while highlighting potential areas for cooperation between the two nations.
He remarked that Indonesia could benefit from the visit by exploring opportunities to expand its export markets, attract increased Russian investment, and pursue technology and innovation transfers.
"Pushing for the conclusion of the free trade agreement between Indonesia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will pave the way for Indonesia to obtain greater market access for its primary products," he affirmed.
He highlighted that primary products that could benefit from the FTA include agricultural products, palm oil, and value-added goods from the manufacturing sector.
In the geopolitical context, he highlighted that the two countries' partnership could also be an important momentum for ensuring Indonesia's economic resilience remains solid and competitive.
