The current needs referred to the efforts to support strengthening development and food security across regions currently managed by the Indonesian Military (TNI).
"This recruitment is relevant because it is part of the formation of the Regional Development Territorial Battalion with four thematic companies (military units), namely medical, engineering, agriculture, and livestock," Fahmi noted here on Thursday.
He highlighted that the TNI AD is one of the institutions equipped with adequate facilities to carry out development in regions.
The development includes not only physical infrastructure but also efforts to improve the quality of human resources in the areas, he stated.
The establishment of the Regional Development Territorial Battalion by the TNI AD, with its new 24 thousand personnel, is expected to help accelerate these security and development efforts.
"This is a reorganization of duties and functions, freeing combat units from multitasking, and at the same time, forming support units specifically handling aspects such as logistics, medical services, and basic infrastructure development," Fahmi explained.
Addressing public criticism that this large-scale recruitment serves militaristic aims, Fahmi said such concerns are understandable.
Furthermore, he said that it is a challenge for the TNI AD to respond professionally, staying true to its initial goal of supporting regional development while maintaining security and stability.
"We are not witnessing an expansion of military power into civilian space but rather witnessing a reorganization of the military's role to be more adaptable to the challenges of the times," he remarked.
