Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Indonesia, Wang Lutong, observed the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) in Medan, North Sumatra, on Friday.

Wang Lutong, accompanied by Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas, observed the MBG Program at the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of Public Elementary School 060812 in the Medan Amplas District.

Along with representatives from the Chinese Consulate General in Medan, Lutong toured the school’s facilities and had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the students.

He sought information from the students about the menu offered as part of the free nutritious meal program.

"Is it delicious?" Lutong inquired.

The PRC ambassador also inspected the MBG Program kitchen at the Suka Maju Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Medan, located not far from the school.

During his visit, Lutong expressed his appreciation to the local administration for implementing the MBG Program in Medan.

He emphasized that the program, initiated by the central government, was positively received by the People's Republic of China and that his government supports its continued success.

"We strongly support the initiatives introduced by President Prabowo to improve community welfare," he stated.

On the same occasion, Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas stated that Ambassador Wang Lutong's visit represented a positive step toward strengthening relations between the two sides.

"This is a good step toward deepening our ties with friendly nations," Waas noted.

The Chinese government has pledged support for President Prabowo Subianto's free nutritious meal program.

This support comes through a funding agreement for the "Food Supplementation and School Feeding Program in Indonesia," formally announced during a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Indonesian and Chinese governments, witnessed by Presidents Prabowo Subianto and Xi Jinping last November.
