Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, emphasized the importance of regional collaboration to address the problem of Out-of-School Children and Youth (OOSCY) in vulnerable border areas at the ASEAN Education Ministers’ Roundtable.

“Indonesia has taken concrete steps to address OOSCY as a vital part of achieving inclusive and quality education for all,” Mu’ti said in a written statement released here on Friday.

At the meeting, he urged regional stakeholders to work together to tackle the complex challenge of the OOSCY in ASEAN.

He underlined the need for all stakeholders to observe the conditions in their own regions and seek smart solutions that align with local contexts.

“Tackling this challenge requires cross-sectoral coordination. We need to strengthen and enhance our partnerships with ASEAN partners,” he said.

He further said he believes that joint collaboration and expertise can boost regional capacity and collective commitment to advance education for all, including OOSCY.

He called upon all ASEAN member states to intensify collective efforts to identify effective strategies and advance real collaborative programs.

He emphasized their commitment to inclusive, accessible, and high-quality education for every student in the ASEAN region.

“I warmly call upon fellow ministers to take bold and united action to address OOSCY. Together let’s strengthen data systems, expand flexible learning pathways, and invest in teacher development and innovative curricula,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek expressed the hope that the meeting would result in the adoption of a joint statement on Out-of-School Children and Youth (OOSCY) — Accelerating Innovative Strategies: Mitigating OOSCY Challenges by all education ministers in ASEAN.
