Makassar (ANTARA) - Makassar Deputy Mayor Aliyah Mustika Ilham stated that the Visit Selangor event has infused new momentum into the city’s tourism sector, serving as one of the region’s international-class activities.

Makassar, South Sulawesi, played host to the Visit Selangor 2025 event, titled Seminar & B2B Networking in Conjunction with MHX 2025, held in the city on Friday.

"This event brings (a breath of) fresh air to our tourism sector, which is currently implementing efficiency measures. It also strengthens Makassar’s bargaining position as a leading destination in eastern Indonesia," Ilham stated.

She expressed appreciation for Makassar being chosen as the host for this international event, calling it a strategic opportunity to showcase the city's tourism potential on a global scale.

Aliyah also noted that Visit Selangor opens greater opportunities for tourists from Malaysia, particularly from Selangor, to consider Makassar as a preferred travel destination.

The event was initiated by Tourism Selangor Sdn. Bhd. as part of the efforts to strengthen cross-border cooperation in the tourism sector between Malaysia and Indonesia.

The program was attended by notable Malaysian figures, including Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Executive Councilor for Local Government and Tourism of Selangor, and Chua Yee Ling, CEO of Tourism Selangor, alongside tourism industry players from both countries.

The seminar and business-to-business (B2B) networking sessions brought together stakeholders from the travel, hospitality, and destination promotion sectors.

Visit Selangor 2025 in Makassar also formed part of the broader Malaysia Healthcare Expo (MHX) 2025 series, which was officially opened a day earlier by Aliyah Mustika Ilham at Trans Studio Mall.

The synergy between the health and tourism sectors presented through this event offers a new approach to attracting cross-border tourists and strengthening regional cooperation in services and economic development.

In her closing remarks, Aliyah emphasized the importance of long-term collaboration in building an inclusive and sustainable tourism ecosystem.

“We warmly welcome the Visit Selangor initiative. Hopefully, this marks the beginning of a closer and more sustainable partnership between Makassar and Malaysia, not only in tourism but also across other supporting sectors,” she affirmed.
