Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Cooperatives have expressed their willingness to explore cooperation in training and competency improvement of cooperatives’ human resources.

In a statement released in Jakarta on Monday, Manpower Minister Yassierli said that the cooperation is a manifestation of their support for President Prabowo Subianto’s strategic programs, especially the management of Red and White village cooperatives.

He affirmed that his ministry has several facilities that can be utilized for the cooperatives, including around four thousand community-based job training centers.

According to the minister, cooperatives should be managed by people with standardized competencies, and not those who are close to retirement.

“The Ministry of Manpower is ready to cooperate and fully support the management of the Red and White Village Cooperatives,” he affirmed.

He added that cooperative management can be improved and made more professional through the competency certification of the staff or managers.

He informed that his ministry and the Ministry of Cooperatives are also ready to optimize cooperatives owned by labor unions.

“This synergy is important because the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Ministry of Manpower share the same goal: striving to benefit many people,” he said.

In the same statement, Cooperatives Minister Budi Arie Setiadi described the synergy with the Ministry of Manpower as highly strategic.

He noted that so far, 80,133 Red and White Village Cooperatives have been formed across Indonesia.

Each cooperative is managed by an average of five people, totalling nearly 400 thousand nationwide, and three supervisors, whose national total reaches almost 240 thousand.

The Indonesian government has envisaged Red and White Village Cooperatives as hubs of economic and social services in village communities that offer savings, loans, and clinic services, among others.
