Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund management agency Danantara is a strategic government initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s human resources, said the agency’s Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Pandu Sjahrir.

“Danantara is an institution focused on developing human capital,” he said when met here on Sunday.

While Indonesia is abundant in natural resources such as nickel and coal, Sjahrir emphasized that unlocking their full potential requires a highly skilled and competent workforce.

“How do we turn natural resources into tangible outcomes? It’s people who make that happen. That’s why we are investing and collaborating globally -- to bring in know-how, drive technology transfer, and ensure long-term capacity building. In the end, it all comes back to the role of human capital,” he explained.

He described Danantara as a platform dedicated to investing in Indonesia’s human resources to deliver long-term value for the nation.

“Our investments are in human capital that will shape Indonesia’s future. Danantara also supports strategic sectors such as energy transition, downstream industrialization, and artificial intelligence. And to drive progress in these areas, we must elevate our human resource capacity,” he added.

According to him, Danantara plays a pivotal role in institutionalizing long-term investment strategies in Indonesia.

“Danantara represents a long-term institutional building effort. It’s about creating robust institutions through strategic investment,” Sjahrir noted.

He added, while profit from investment is important, it must bring added value, promote sustainability, and build sovereignty for Indonesia.

Recently, Danantara, the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), and French mining company Eramet explored the establishment of a strategic investment platform focused on Indonesia’s nickel sector.

CIO Sjahrir, stated that the potential collaboration aims to develop a sustainable and integrated ecosystem for electric vehicle (EV) battery raw materials in Indonesia.
