Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the development of new and renewable energy power plants can spur domestic industrial growth and create more employment opportunities.

Lahadalia cited the newly inaugurated Blawan Ijen Unit 1 geothermal power plant (PLTP) in Bondowoso, East Java, as an example.

“First, the development of the power plant stimulates the growth of local industries through the 40 percent domestic component requirement (TKDN policy). We have calculated that the PLTP’s contribution, along with additional geothermal production, amounts to Rp426.5 billion (US$26.3 million) annually,” he explained.

The minister also noted that the development and operation of the power plant have provided employment for approximately 1,404 people.

During the occasion, he inaugurated the Ijen geothermal power plant, marking its official entry into commercial operation. He also observed an increase in Cepu gas mill production to 30 thousand barrels and noted the expansion of solar power plant capacity.

“We are also inaugurating solar power plants in villages that have not yet received electricity. As per the President’s directives, we will equip these villages with solar power facilities, starting now and continuing over the next 5 to 10 years,” he said.

He expressed hope that the initiative would ensure electricity access for all villages in Indonesia.

The minister emphasized that these efforts are in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives on energy transition, resilience, and self-sufficiency—particularly in building a skilled workforce for the renewable energy sector and achieving zero emissions by 2060.

“This is also part of the Indonesian government’s pursuit of a national consensus to achieve our Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target by 2060,” Lahadalia stated.
