Jakarta (ANTARA) - Director general of land transportation at the Transportation Ministry, Aan Suhanan, has expressed the hope that truck drivers will call off their planned nationwide strike, saying it could disrupt logistics flow across the country.

“We hope this will not happen because the impact would go beyond the drivers: it would affect the entire logistics ecosystem,” he said after holding discussions with a group of truck drivers here on Wednesday.

He made the statement in response to a planned mass strike by truck drivers on Thursday (July 3, 2025) to protest the government’s policy on over-dimension and overloading (ODOL).

The truck drivers have warned of going ahead with the strike unless they are granted an audience with Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

Suhanan said that he will report the truck drivers’ demands to Minister Purwagandhi without delay.

“This will be reported to the leadership. Hopefully, this meeting will lead to a decision,” he added.

Meanwhile, president of the Confederation of Muslimin Workers’ Union of Indonesia (Sarbumusi), Irham Ali Saifuddin, told reporters after the dialogue with the Transportation Ministry that the meeting had ended in a deadlock.

He said that the truck drivers would wait until 4 p.m. local time on Tuesday to meet the two ministers, failing which the nationwide strike will proceed as planned.

“If we are unable to meet with Coordinating Minister Yudhoyono and Minister Purwagandhi today, we will call for and begin a national strike starting tomorrow (July 3), especially in the logistics transport sector,” he added.

Saifuddin said that the protesters are demanding that ODOL implementation be delayed until a more careful study is conducted, which could serve as the basis for a comprehensive revision of the Transportation Law.

They also want the government to devise a road map and a binding legal program to eliminate illegal levies that significantly increase logistics and transportation costs.

In addition, they have called for the drafting of a Transportation Workers Protection Bill to ensure the rights and safety of transportation drivers.
