"The Defence Ministry and the TNI are enhancing their vigilance by continuing to build TNI strength with the 'Trisula Nusantara' doctrine, which encompasses our army, navy, and air force," Sjamsoeddin said at the parliament complex here on Wednesday.
After attending a closed-door meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), the minister emphasized that current geopolitical and geo-economic conditions require the Indonesian military to formulate and update its strategic and budgetary policies.
He also affirmed that Indonesia’s "free and active" foreign policy principle does not restrict the national mission to strengthen military forces and upgrade defence equipment.
"We will facilitate the use and development of these forces to strengthen our army, navy, and air force," he remarked.
While the "free and active" principle limits Indonesia’s direct involvement in foreign conflicts, the minister said the country remains attentive to the humanitarian disasters those conflicts cause—including Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip since 2023, which has killed nearly 60,000 Palestinians.
Sjamsoeddin reiterated President Prabowo Subianto’s call for world leaders to prioritise diplomacy. "Let us sit together to achieve a solution for humanity," he said.
Meanwhile, DPR Commission I Chair Utut Adianto expressed support for the TNI’s efforts to strengthen its capabilities, stressing that the nation’s interests must remain the top priority.
He also described the Defence Ministry and TNI’s current performance in developing strength and responding to geopolitical challenges as adequate.
"Our national interest is the utmost priority above all," he emphasised.
