Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - The Class I Immigration Office at the Banda Aceh Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) has deported a Malaysian citizen for violating his stay permit in Indonesia.

Head of the Class I Immigration Office of the Banda Aceh TPI, Gindo Ginting, stated in Banda Aceh on Wednesday that the Malaysian citizen, identified by the initials MK, was deported to his home country via Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport, Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar District, on Wednesday, July 2, at around 4:50 p.m. local time.

"The deportation was carried out after the immigration process and supervision were completed. The foreign citizen was returned to his country of origin aboard a commercial flight," he remarked.

Gindo explained that the Malaysian citizen had violated his stay permit in Indonesia since 2020. MK had entered Indonesia using the visa-free visit facility.

However, after the stay permit expired, MK did not leave the Indonesian territory, which constituted a violation of Article 78, Paragraph (3) of Law Number 6 of 2011 on Immigration.

"Deportation is a form of law enforcement against any violation committed by foreigners in Indonesia. Immigration does not tolerate foreigners who violate immigration regulations," he remarked.

Earlier, MK was arrested by immigration officers at a location in Banda Aceh City. He had entered Indonesian territory through TPI Dumai, Riau Province, in 2020. From Dumai, MK traveled to Aceh and stayed at an Islamic boarding school until 2023.

Later, MK married an Acehnese woman in October 2023 and had a child. MK and his family reside in Merduati, Banda Aceh City, and work as parking attendants at a supermarket.

Gindo said his office continues to strengthen supervision of foreigners' presence through conducting field patrols, coordinating with related agencies, and encouraging public reporting.

"We appeal to foreigners in Indonesia to comply with immigration regulations. We hope for active support in reporting the presence of foreigners who are suspicious or do not have valid documents," Ginting remarked.
