Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's domestic supply of crude oil and fuel remains secure despite the potential threat of Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz, according to an official from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

“Our focus is to ensure the availability of imported crude and fuel,” said Dadan Kusdiana, secretary general of the ministry, on Thursday.

He noted that state-owned energy company Pertamina has already prepared alternative shipping routes in case the strait is blocked.

Kusdiana said the ministry is coordinating closely with Pertamina, including running simulations to prepare for disruptions to global oil shipments.

“We’ve already run simulations for a scenario in which the Strait of Hormuz is closed,” he added.

Earlier, Pertamina confirmed that it had secured alternative crude oil distribution routes, including from Oman and India, in response to heightened tensions following the Iranian Parliament’s approval of a proposal to block the key shipping lane amid the Iran–Israel conflict.

Pertamina Vice President Fadjar Djoko Santoso warned that any closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a passageway that handles about 20 percent of global crude oil shipments — would severely disrupt supply chains.

However, he assured the public that Indonesia’s domestic oil reserves remain adequate, even in the face of escalating geopolitical risks.

Tensions between Iran and Israel intensified on June 13 after Israel launched air strikes on multiple locations in Iran, including military and nuclear sites. Iran retaliated with strikes inside Israel.

On June 22, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military had carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

In response, Iran’s Parliament approved a proposal to close the Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic, raising concerns about disruptions to global energy markets.
